Welcome to North Country. Portage Brewing Company is a destination brewery and taproom, nestled just inside Chippewa National Forest, off the banks of Leech Lake, in the small community of Walker. Our history is a long story - one filled with inspiring projects, collaborations, tragedy, and rebirth.

In 2017, we opened our doors within Walker’s original hospital with a few dollars to operate with, and a mission to keep our roots of homebrewing alive, brewing anything that peaked our curiosity. To date, we’ve brewed 240 different beers, ranging from spontaneous sour beer, to oak fermented lagers, to everything in between.

In 2019, we experienced a catastrophic fire that destroyed our brewery, taking us to the very edge of needing to quit. Just a day after the fire hit, we were pulled from an impossible situation by hundreds of fellow brewers, neighbors, and customers, to a place where we were able to rebuild the brewery you see today.

Today, we operate a 10BBL brewhouse, and a small wood cellar we fill and clear annually. Next time you’re considering travel for a beer, we hope you’ll come North and see us.

On ahead,
